NaBloPoMo Day 5
I've always been committed to fitness and a relatively healthy lifestyle. Working full time and working out regularly doesn't always work well though. To get it a 60 minute minute workout (adding in an extra 30-45 minutes for transportation, changing, checking kids in for childcare, etc.), I would have to go after work around 6:30 p.m. That would push dinner/homework/bath/bedtime later and harder. So I might only go to the gym once during the work week, and once on the weekend.
Now that I'm not working, it seems the best time to go to the gym is in the morning when everyone is at school. I can get it out of the way more efficiently and not hassle with herding cats. I suppose if I were more clever, I would go after I pick them all up and extend the independence an hour or so longer.
Currently I have a regular gym membership, a pilates studio package secured from Groupon and a seven day pass at a super nice gym with all the kick ass amenities. However, I have only hit the gym once this week (and it's Thursday). Twice if you count Sunday. I'd like to work out four times a week at least. Why haven't I gone this week? Maybe too many options, not enough actual interest in getting sweaty, and feeling lethargic/melancholy/defeated.
Some of my favorite classes to take focus on the core, to help improve the effects of three kids - core fusion, barre, mat pilates, pilates reformer, body pump, yoga and sometimes boot camp when I'm feeling really strong. I'm not trying to lose a bunch of weight though. I am in shape for the most part at 126 lbs with a good BMI. I work out for my mental health, to release endorphins, feel alive and also to build muscle strength and definition. Oh, and to look good in clothes (and bikini).
I intend to do something active tomorrow, possibly barre class at the pilates studio or an ab class at the high end gym. Then I will hurry off to volunteer at the chickadees' school, then hurry off to pick up son from his school. See how energetic and efficient I am? When I wake up in the morning, it may be another story however...
How do you like to stay active?
